The PSS Shaft Seal is the number 1 selling marine mechanical seal world wide and is installed as same old equipment by a number of the worlds so much reputable boat builders / yards. The PSS Shaft Seal may be recognized as the premiere retrofit (aftermarket) seal at the world market. Certified by Bureau Veritas, ABS & Rina: Boat builders / yards recognize the benefits and value of putting in the PSS as it removes the upkeep, constant adjustment & cost associated with traditional packing type glands. Except these benefits, the PSS Shaft Seal helps to do away with water within the bilge (one hundred% water tight) & wear to the propeller shaft. The PSS Shaft Seal may also be easily retrofitted and is to be had for shafts starting from 3/4″ (20mm) to six” (150mm).
The PSS Shaft Seal is a mechanical face seal that may be created between the flat surfaces of the rotating chrome steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is hooked up to the vessels stern tube with hose clamps and the carbon flange is hooked up to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps. The chrome steel rotor is fit at the shaft in front of the carbon flange. The chrome steel rotor is used to compress the bellows before the collar is secured to the shaft with set-screws. This compression (pre-load) maintains contact between the faces and allows the PSS to atone for the thrust from the propeller. The carbon flange is bored larger than the shaft diameter allowing it to “go with the flow” across the shaft and thus atone for so much misalignment and vibration problems. The
