Description
The Valhalla Collection is the ninth within the David OscarsonTM series of Limited Edition writing instruments. Produced in three color variations, each and every can be limited to production of 88 items (including fountain pens and roller balls). From the Bronze Age to medieval times, Viking mythology was once the faith of Scandinavia. Nowadays, legends of the Vikings are present in all cultures on account of their talent to go back and forth and plunder. The Vikings also developed a crude runic alphabet, seen chiseled into large granite rocks, known as rune stones. Valhalla (Valhöll) literally translated way ‘Hall of the Slain” and is in essence a Viking heaven, or ‘Otherworld’ into which Viking warriors pass upon leaving this life. In Valhalla, three Viking gods prevail: the Nordic Trinity, Odin, Thor and Frey.
Odin, ‘God of the Slain’ and ‘All-Father’ lives right through every age ruling his kingdom completely.
Thor is after all the God of Thunder. He’s the guardian of the arena – either one of gods and men.
Frey is the god of fertility. He controls the rain and sunshine. He also controls the nice fortunes of fellows.
The Valhalla Collection is portrayed within the technical expertise of Guilloché engraving and the artistic mastery of Hard Enamel. The Collection comprises three levels of Guilloché and 3 colors of translucent and opaque hard enamel on each and every Collection piece.
The Medieval design of this Limited Edition requires three separate stages of engraving. All of the body of the pen is first cut all the way down to the extent of the background, leaving the outlines of the rune stone and longship in prime relief. The wave and granite patterns are then engraved onto the outside of the body of the pen. The third stage of engraving applies the smaller serpent motif to the outside of the granite; the bigger serpent remaining raised in prime relief.
